Gregory Jon Campbell was born to Judy & Jack Campbell on June 3, 1983 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up along side his older brother of 18 months, Joe, in Richland, PA. His family later moved 10 miles north to Butler, PA where he attended Knoch middle school & Graduated from Knoch High School in 2001. He enjoyed playing baseball, wrestling, & tennis. He was even the high School mascot as the Knoch Knight his Junior & Senior year.
Greg began babysitting the neighborhood children at 12 years old. He babysat 4 children for one family until he went to college.. His love for children lead to his interest in teaching. He also volunteered for the Special Olympics which narrowed Greg’s focus to special education.
Greg then attended his Alma Mater, West Virginia University, where he spent 5 years earning his Master’s Degree in special education in 2006. There he meet lifelong friends in his college roommates & enthusiastically rooted for all things Mountaineers, especially football. Greg even named his oldest daughter Morgan after Morgantown, West Virginia, home of WVU.
After college Greg moved to Tampa, Florida. He briefly taught at Memorial Middle school for 20 days & was then transferred to Davidsen Middle School. He loyally taught ESE math at Davidsen from 2006 until his passing. He was Teacher of the year in 2011 & 2020. Mr. Campbell had a passion for teaching & impacted innumerable young minds & attitudes.
When Greg moved to Tampa in 2006, he found his beloved fur companion, his pug, Duker, who has been his shadow ever since.. July 31, 2012, Greg meet the love of his life, Sheila, while casually playing trivia at the Mellow Mushroom. Their 1st date was at the dog beach with Duker & Sheila’s dog, Lulu. Greg & Sheila loved to visit Key West & frequent the Tampa Theatre together. Greg & Sheila married at The Tampa Theatre on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2015. They share two beautiful girls together, Morgan & Meadow as well as 2 angel babies, Claire & Lucy. Greg was the most amazing, hands on husband & father.
Greg enjoyed traveling. He took 3 cross-country road trips to see 28 of the 32 major league ballparks. With family, friends, & even students he traveled to the Caribbean, Europe, China, Central America, & South America. He loved playing softball where he also met life long friends through his Monday night team The Great Hambinos as well as his Friday night Davidsen league. Greg was a life long fan of the WWE, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, & Pittsburgh Penguins.
He LOVED fantasy football, his absolute favorite time of the year.
Greg passed unexpectedly Monday evening, August 30, 2021, of heart failure due to an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Greg is Preceded in death by his twin daughters Claire & Lucy Campbell, maternal grandfather Joseph Malone, & paternal grandfather William Campbell. He is Survived by his wife Sheila Campbell, daughters Morgan and Meadow Campbell, parents Jack and Judy Campbell, brother Joe Campbell & wife Heather, maternal grandmother Clara Malone, paternal grandmother Jackie Altemus, mother-in-law Laura Arment, brother-in-law Brandon Arment, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends .
