Glorya Tyler's Obituary
Glorya E. Tyler passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, November 4th, 2023 at the young age of 91. She was surrounded by her devoted family. Throughout the years, Glorya fondly listened to Andrea Bocelli. So, it seemed she chose to take her leave of this earth to "Time to Say Goodbye" which the radio played quietly and without method at the time of her passing.
Glorya was born in Michigan on Friday, May 20th, 1932, where she often recalled her lovely childhood memories with her mom and dad, sister Lorraine, and all her cousins while growing up in Detroit. She would reminisce about summers spent with her cousins Marilyn Eberhardt and Cara Lee and tell stories of family get-togethers as she grew older, married, and had children of her own. It was for her equally remarkable son, Mark, that Glorya and her beloved husband, Arthur Tyler moved to California. Glorya was preceded in death by Mark Crosby, Arthur Tyler, and dear stepson Scott Tyer.
Glorya was a strong and compassionate woman. Her talents were limitless. We celebrate her as a true Renaissance woman who made her own clothes, quilts, and blankets. She did pottery, painting, sculpture, and woodcarving and had the most amazing garden. Besides her green thumb, her most impressive gift was creating a warm and simple yet elegant home which was always inviting. She worked with the Detroit Police Department and as an administrator for the Lions Club. Glorya eventually retired as administrator at a local hospital in Santa Barbara. She always had time to hear about life's travels and she loved to give much needed solid sensible advice to live life with a purpose.
Glorya loved the ocean and being near the coastline. She spent many hours walking along the boardwalk with her great granddaughters Emily & Skylar while listening to the seagulls and sea-lions and watching the glow of sunrises and sunsets. A tradition carried on with the girls as often as she could while living in Florida. Frequent car rides to the beach were happy times where she could roll down the window and smell the salty air. Her crystal blue eyes reflected the joy each time she got to see the ocean and watch the boats.
Glorya radiated confidence when she walked into a room. With casual assertiveness she signaled a dark-haired gentleman with a wave of her hand calling out, " Hi John!" and walked up to the famous actor in a quiet Santa Barbara airport to ask for an autograph on behalf of her bashful starstruck preteen granddaughter. Not a day goes by that her presence and ability to bring laughter to the cloudiest days is missed.
Glorya is survived by her daughter Maureen Stabe, stepdaughter Adrienne Logsdon, her husband Tom, and their children. She is also survived by her granddaughters Shannon Queen, husband Craig, and their children; Jennifer Humphrey, husband Mike, and their children; nephews Jeff Rauf, wife Cindy and their children; Kurt Rauf, and wife Nancy. She held and treasured the many friendships over the years as well as people she met during her travels.
Glorya did not wish to have a funeral. She would rather her family remember her in happier, healthier, and more vibrant times. If you wish to do something special to honor her memory, we ask that you think of her the next time you walk along the beach, or marvel at a sunset. in Lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that any donations go to the Alzheimer's Association.
The family would also like to extend an invitation to our Walk to End Alzheimer's team "Glory Days" for our part in raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care and treatment. We would like to thank Empath and Gulfside Hospice and her dear caregivers.
