Gladys Fernandez Alfonso
May 25th, 1929 – February 25th, 2023
On the afternoon of January 25th, 2023, Gladys Fernandez Alfonso passed away at the age of 93, and entered her final rest. Gladys was born to Juan Manuel, and Purisima Marti Fernandez in Esperanza, Cuba on May 25th, 1929. Gladys and Jesus Alfonso were married in Havana, Cuba on October 22nd, 1954. Gladys and Jesus immigrated to the United States, arriving in Miami, Florida on October 21st, 1956. Their son, Robert was born on June 23rd,1957, and raised in Miami, Florida.
Gladys loved plants and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. She loved her flowers, especially her roses, camelias and gardenias, taking good care of them and making sure they would bloom year after year. She loved animals, especially her little dogs, and of course the neighborhood cats. Gladys would adopt any stray that showed up at her house, and cared for them, fed them, and compassionately showed them her love. Gladys was kind and considerate of others and was always willing to help her family and friends and show them her love. Gladys was the family pioneer and adventurer, as she loved to travel, visiting and living in California, Chicago, and North Carolina, and visited other places around the United States.
Gladys is preceded in death by her father, Juan and mother, Purisima Fernandez, brothers Marcos Fernandez, Juan Fernandez, Carlos Fernandez, and sister, Loreley Bradley, and her husband, Jesus Gregorio Alfonso. She was survived by her son, Robert Alfonso, his wife, Diana P. Alfonso and her brother, Nelson Fernandez, Sr., and her grandchildren, Christopher A. Alfonso, Robert J. Alfonso, and his wife Charlene A. Alfonso, her great grandchildren Robert A. (Robbie), and Andrew J. (Andy) Alfonso.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, FL 34655 on February 12th, 2023. The viewing will be at 10:00 am, with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
