My grandfather was a simple man. He loved golf. He loved working in the yard. He loved his little home projects and tinkering with the silliest of things; but most of all, he loved his family.
From dropping me off at school everyday to (secretly) planning my engagement, his love and support were boundless. No matter what my day held or what was on the horizon for my future, my grandfather was right there. Front row. Ready to offer advice on how to navigate hardships, or belly-laughing alongside me during the most joyous moments of my life.
To some, he was a neighbor. A father. A husband. A friend. Silly, Uncle Jer. To me, he was Pappy. My always there, always loving, always supportive, Pappy.
My grandfather was a simple man, but his love was anything but.
So many wonderful memories about my Uncle Jerry. He wasn’t just a relative he was a constant presence in my life, a source of wisdom (telling me to never buy a black car and always to invest for retirement), humor, and love (so generously giving me my first car). Whether it was his stories (most I remember on grandma Tippy’s back porch), or the generosity he offered in moments teaching his great nephews how to golf or hosting dinner at his house when we would visit.
His kindness and gentle heart will stay with me forever. Though he may be gone from this Earth, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched, and the memories we all hold close.
Rest in peace Uncle Jerry. You will be deeply missed and endlessly loved ❤️
