Gerard "Gerry" Vernot's Obituary
Gerard Vernot, PhD., age 81, passed away on February 1, 2023 in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
“Gerry” as he was known to his friends and family was born in Philadelphia, PA. He was
preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Vernot. Gerry was a member of the De
La Salle Christian Brothers. In 1962 he graduated from La Salle University. He continued his
education and earned his Masters degree from Villanova University in Mathematics and
another Masters from Notre Dame University in Counseling. He achieved his PhD from Florida
State University in Counseling and Human Services. Gerry was an educator for 43 years, a
counselor for 20 years, a mentor throughout his life and an author.
Gerry was a longtime resident of Tallahassee and enjoyed going to FSU sporting events and his
Panama City beach condo. In 2005, he moved to Tampa to be closer to his family, especially
his grandchildren. Gerry’s favorite hobbies were golfing and spectating at his grandchildren’s
various sporting events and extracurricular activities. He was passionate in his role as a
mentor and was highly regarded throughout his life for all his accomplishments.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Trudy; children Kevin (Vicki) Kenny, Maureen
(Christopher) Dunn, Brian (Tara) Kenny and Christopher (Mikki) Kenny; grandchildren, Tyler,
Caroline, Emilee, Cameron and Payton; sister Corita (Hugh) O’Brien and nieces and nephews.
