George Mahairas' Obituary
George Mahairas, 63, of New Port Richey, FL was called home on January 19, 2026. He was born on May 18th, 1962, in Thessaloniki, Greece to the late Nicholas and Sophia Mahairas. In 1969, George immigrated to the United States with his parents and eldest sister, settling in Somerville, Massachusetts, where he formed lifelong friendships and remained close to family. In 1978, his family relocated to Clearwater, Florida, where George completed his schooling and began operating a food truck—building a legacy he proudly carried on for over 35 years.
George married his devoted bride, Alexandra, in 1991. Both coming from Thessaloniki, Greece and moving to the United States the same month and year but only to finally meet in 1989. The two met, fell in love, and were married August of 1991, welcoming three children in the years that followed.
George had a true servant’s heart, always willing to help—whether it was his customers, family, neighbors, friends, or someone he just met. George could often be found in his garage or around the house, fixing or tinkering with something. He loved breaking it down on the dance floor, watching sports or a good movie, cruising, taking family road trips, and riding his jet ski. George was also known for his remarkable memory—remembering people, directions, family moments, and movies with ease. Even in the final months of his life, he continued to recognize previous nurses who cared for him while passing them in the aisles at the grocery store.
Above all, George had an immense amount of love for his family. The joy he received from a simple hug and kiss from his wife or children could not be measured but you could always tell from the glow on his face, how much he cherished his loved ones. He did not let a day pass without letting every one of his family members know how much he loved them, from his sisters to his great-nieces and nephews.
George is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Alexandra Mahairas, 3 children Nicholas, Victoria, and Stefano, 2 grandchildren, 2 sisters Elaine Sfirakis and Anastasia Mellios, numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Vasiliki Vlahopoulos. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Florida, with a Trisagion service at 6:30 pm, and the Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 9426 Little Road, New Port Richey, Florida, with the burial following at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
