George Lamp's Obituary
George R. Lamp, 89, of Lutz, Florida, passed away on February 24, 2024. George was born to Charles and Eva Lamp on November 20, 1934, in Midland County, Michigan. He grew up and attended school in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served as a radio mechanic during the Vietnam War. During this time, he married his sweetheart Carol Elaine Robinson on December 30, 1961, and the couple started a family together. George was honorably discharged from the Army in August of 1962 before being called back up from the reserves to serve again during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his service in the Army, George worked as a machinist at the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan for thirty years until his retirement. George and Carol relocated from Michigan to Florida in 2003.
George was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions, and he enjoyed supporting the Michigan State Spartans football team as well. In his spare time, he could be found watching NASCAR or reading the newspaper. George and his brothers took great pride in their father’s service in the Spanish American War and were active members of the fraternal organization Sons of Spanish American War Veterans during the late 1990s and early 2000s. In fact, prior to his passing, George was one of only a few remaining first-generation descendants of a Spanish American War veteran.
George was a devoted husband and father and a kindhearted, reliable man. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor and his fondness for affectionately teasing those around him. He is survived by his daughter Melanie Poole and her husband Bryan. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Lamp and his son Greg Lamp.
