Gary M. Curry's Obituary
Gary Martin Curry died on June 19, 2023 after a brief illness.He was 83.
Gary was born January 18, 1940 in Peekskill, NY to Calvin Curry and Priscilla Stottlar, two months premature, at 3:10PM (he was proud of knowing and remembering the exact time), and was raised in Shrub Oak, NY. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1957. While in high school, he began what would be an over 40 year career with The Great A&P Tea Company, starting as a bottle boy, and working his way up to manager at several stores in the Westchester and Putnam county area On June 5, 1960, he married Jessica (Jackie) Pryba of Yonkers, NY. In 1963, he welcomed his only child, Gary Calvin Curry
Gary enjoyed playing and watching sports in his youth, especially baseball and basketball, and did well at both...even with being born almost blind in his right eye. He eventually settled with his wife and son.in Carmel, NY. In later years, he developed a passion for watching local high school football and took up golf. He retired in January, 2002 and moved to Trinity, FL to be closer to his son and grand children. In retirement, he continued playing golf, until illness made it no longer possible, and he enjoyed watching all sports and political commentary, as well as looking for good grocery bargains wherever he could find them.
Gary was predeceased by his wife, Jackie, his brother Calvin R Curry, and his sister Karen Shelah. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his son, Gary C Curry, his grandsons Ryan Curry and Brent Webster, his niece Jacque Roche of NY, his nephews Richard Curry of the Philippines, Tim Curry and Stephen Curry of MA, and Michael Shelah of MD, his sister in law Dorothea (Dot) Curry of NY, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment of Gary and Jackie's cremains will be in Putnam Valley, NY, at a date and time to be determined.
