Gary F Avila's Obituary
Gary F. Avila, 73, of Trinity, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28th after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family.
Gary was born on April 19th, 1951, to Frank and Lorraine (Dallaire) Avila of Warren, RI. Gary attended LaSalle Academy, where he found his love of playing guitar, and graduated in 1969. He then went on to study pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island, where he also pursued golfing, was a member of the Rifle Team, and continued to play music. He graduated in 1974. Gary embarked on a 45 year career as a pharmacist, the majority of which was spent at St. Joseph’s Hospital/Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. It was here where Gary met his “Lovely Bride,” Janice (Perry).
Gary proudly retired as Director of Pharmacy from Florida Hospital North Pinellas in 2017 so he could finally make the most of his time pursuing his interests of golfing, traveling, and woodworking. His happiest endeavors, though, were being with his wife, gathering with family and friends, and spoiling his precious and beloved grand-kids. Gary made the most of every minute, never missing an important event or opportunity to be of service to his friends, co-workers, family and neighbors.
Gary is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lorraine Avila, and his grandaughter, Lilly Teixeira. In addition to his cherished wife, Jan, Gary is survived by his son, Geoffrey Avila of Tiverton, RI; his daughter, Christine Avila and her partner Joseph Bagwell of Hopkinton, RI; his brother Dennis Avila and his wife Claire of Warren, RI; his sister, Joy Bettencourt and her husband Frank of Warren, RI; his grandchildren Charles Teixeira, Everly Bagwell, Hunter Bagwell, And Delaney Bagwell; his nephews Mark Avila and wife Rosa of Bristol, RI; Michael Avila and wife Tina of Bristol, RI; and his niece Sandra Avila of Warren RI, as well as his great-nieces and nephews.
Services for Gary will be with Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity Fl 34655 where the family will receive relatives and guests for visitation on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 5 pm to 7 pm. A funeral mass will take place Monday, September 9, 2024 at St. Peter the Apostle at 10:30 am.
