Frances C Henriquez's Obituary
Frances Henriquez passed away peacefully at the age of 94.
Frances was born in Ybor City on January 31, 1931. She was a precocious child and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1949. While in high school she met the love of her life, Wallace Henriquez. They married on June 19, 1949 and were married for 56 years until his passing.
Frances began her employment at City Clerk’s Office in 1954 as a Clerk-Typist, then an all-male operation. By 1963, she was appointed Deputy City Clerk by Mayor Julian Lane. In 1973, she defeated three male opponents in an election to become the first woman, and first Hispanic woman elected City Clerk. She won that election with 74% of the total vote. She was a trail blazer paving the way for future women in city government. Frances received many awards and accolades in her job, too many to list. She spent 39 years serving her community until retiring in 1993.
Frances is survived by her son, Wallace Henriquez Jr. (Nancy) and daughter Lori Henriquez of Tampa; four grandchildren, Ryan Henriquez (Lauren), Wade Henriquez (Kelsey), Madison Johnson (Ashton), Stormie Wheless and great-grandchildren, Wade Henriquez Jr., Kingston Henriquez, and Sterling Johnson. She enjoyed being with her family and traveling. She also enjoyed living on Lake Alice, fishing with her grandchildren and making everlasting memories with them. She was very knowledgeable in Astronomy and loved to point out the various constellations to her grandchildren. Frances will be greatly missed and loved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral Service will be April 1st, 2025 @10:00am at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
