Ferdinand Herbert Leuffen, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 20th, 2024 at Suncoast Hospice in Palm
Harbor, Florida.
Married for 63 years to Evelyn Leuffen, who passed away in 2018, he is survived by two sons, Kurt of
Sound Beach, NY, and Craig, of Gaithersburg, MD, granddaughter - Dana Loeb, grandson - Kyle Leuffen,
and great grandson - Benjamin Loeb.
Born in New York City and raised in Woodside, Queens, he was an avid sports lover, playing soccer,
football, tennis and golf. He attended Saint Francis College, PA with a football scholarship and went on
to earn a master's degree from the State University in Albany, NY.
Settling in Strongs Neck on Long Island, NY he held a number of teaching and administrative positions in
various school districts including, Deer Park and the Three Village School District.
He was a community minded resident who served on the local rotary club and was president of the Old
Field Tennis & Beach Club in Stony Brook, NY.
Upon retiring Fred and Evelyn (who retired from Sachem School District as Assistant Principal), settled in
Crescent Oaks in Tarpon Springs, FL.
As avid golfers and tennis players they enjoyed many years there and developed many close friendships.
They spent their years traveling and hosting parties but loved nothing more than spending time with
their family.
