Fausto Garcia's Obituary
DR. FAUSTO GARCIA, 89, of New Port Richey passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 29. Fausto was born in Manila, the Philippines in 1928 and attended medical school at the University of Santo Thomas before immigrating to Jacksonville, Florida in 1960. He is survived by his wife Eileen, daughter Mary (Scott), and sons Donald (Elena), Robert, Johnny, Chris and Michael (Stephanie). His daughter Laurie passed away in 2015.
Fausto Dimzon Garcia was a respected and admired general surgeon for many years, and was also beloved as person with wide and varied passions, which included horse breeding, oil painting, orchid floriculture, karaoke, golf, and fishing.
After finishing his surgical residency in Jacksonville, he began his career as an ER physician in Nashville, TN before establishing his career at Hardee Memorial Hospital in Wauchula, Florida. He served as head surgeon at HMH from 1970 until 1983, before continuing his career in Lake Wales, Fl and then in Clearwater, Fl, before retiring to New Port Richey in 1999.
A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, Fausto often said that his favorite thing was to be on vacation with his family and falling asleep while listening to his large and boisterous clan laughing and carrying on in the next room. Notably, he continued to state this favored activity even as his family grew to include eleven grandchildren, and as the vacation evenings grew to include karaoke nights, poker games and entertainment revues performed by family members for each other.
A memorial mass will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic church (8320 Old Country Road 54) in New Port Richey at 9:30 am on Wednesday, January 3. Words of comfort may be expressed at trinitymemorial.com.
