Eusebio Fontanez ( Selio) Was born on July 10, 1933 in Rio Piedras Puerto Rico to his loving parents Francisco and Carmela Fontanez. He was the oldest of ten siblings. He is survived by his brothers Pablo, Pedro, Ramon and Heriberto and his sisters Marta, Margarita and Lidia. He is predeceased by his sister Luisa and his brother Luis.
He moved to New York at the age of 18 with his sister Luisa. On February 23, 1957 he married the love of his life Gladys Medero and went on to have four children : Evelyn, Robert, Lisa and Steven. Evelyn and Steven went on to heaven. They lived in the lower east side of Manhattan- 6365 Norfolk Street was their cherished apartment.
Selio thoroughly enjoyed working at the Floridian Restaurant in Manhattan as a short order cook and later at Miller Brothers grocery store in Corona for many years .
They purchased their first home in Corona Queens New York in 1962 while they were expecting Lisa. After 26 years they retired and moved to Tampa in the Eastbrook neighborhood on Redcliff Drive where he made many friends and enjoyed his neighbors .
He attended New Life Church and now Hope City Church for the past 35 years where he served as usher and council member. Selio loved to make everyone laugh with his colorful hats and always found something to give away. He loved gardening , cooking, family picnics, beach vacations with the family, the Tampa Bay Rays and worshipping at Hope City Church with his church family. Most of all he loved being Papa to Jacob, Jenna and Jeremy whom he was so proud of!!!
At the center of his life was his unwavering love for Jesus and he lived his life with humility, compassion, integrity and love. He loved his family immensely. His warmth ,faith and love touched everyone he knew. His heart was as big as his smile and he never knew a stranger.
