Elizabeth Stoddard's Obituary
Elizabeth Stoddard, 88, of Hudson, FL, was born on July 30, 1931 to James and Jennie Stevenson in Kearny, NJ. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2020. Elizabeth was lovingly known as Bette, Mom, and Nana. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jennie, and husband of 30 years, Charles Stoddard.
Her small and fragile frame didn’t hold her back from her extreme personality and dominate and sharp intellect. She valued her coffee and sweets and cherished being around family and friends.
In 1975 she moved to Port Richey, FL, where she lived with her husband Charles, son James (Jamie), and mother Jennie Stevenson.
Elizabeth’s favorite holiday was Christmas, and she had a passion for collecting Hallmark Christmas ornaments. She loved to decorate for the holidays, and had no less than four Christmas trees every year. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word searches, and other trivia. She was a master at Wheel-of-Fortune, which was one of her favorite game shows. Bette liked to bake cakes and pies for family and friends. She also loved to watch football and go to games, especially to see the Dallas Cowboys. She was a coupon queen, and was always hunting for bargains. In her later years, she lived with her son Jamie, his wife, Ioanna, and her granddaughter, Julianna.
She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Ann Alcorn, Barbara Choffo, and son, James Stoddard. She is also survived by her five grandchildren- Danny, Jeanne, and Joseph Choffo, David Alcorn, and Julianna Stoddard, and her eight greatgrandchildren. Bette liked visiting with her daughter-in-law’s sister, Nicole Antonakos.
A small gathering will be held on Friday, April 10th at Trinity Memorial Gardens at ten o’clock in the morning. Due to the current situation with the coronavirus, a larger celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time.
A special “thank you” to the wonderful staff at Bear Creek Nursing Center in Hudson, who adored her and took exceptional care of her for the past three years.
