Eleanor Owen's Obituary
Eleanor Owen was born on January 27, 1939, in South Elmsall, England, to James and Margaret Lees. She was one of five sisters: Sheila Miller (who predeceased her), Marlene Barker, Lorraine Lees-Hartley, and Sharon Watkins. Eleanor shared a very special relationship with her father, but unfortunately, he passed away at the young age of 36.
At the age of 19, Eleanor embarked on a life-changing journey to the United States aboard the iconic Queen Elizabeth, arriving in New York on May 13, 1958. She initially settled in Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Canada, where she met and married Bryan Owen (who predeceased her). Together, they built a life filled with love and family. After welcoming their two sons, Darren James Owen and Craig Steven Owen, they returned to Dayton, where Eleanor worked at Winters National Bank.
In 1976, the Owen family moved to New Port Richey, Florida, where Eleanor continued her long and distinguished career in banking at Peoples State Bank. She helped guide the institution through several transitions as it became Barnett Bank, Bank of America, Huntington Bank, and eventually SunTrust. Eleanor’s expertise, integrity, and unwavering dedication earned her the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her career, Eleanor had a deep passion for traveling, especially cruising. She embarked on countless voyages over the years, sharing unforgettable adventures with a dear childhood friend from England. Their travels created cherished memories that lasted a lifetime, and Eleanor continued to embrace her love for the sea even after her friend’s passing. She loved traveling with special friends. Additionally, Eleanor always looked forward to her week at Treasure Island, where she owned a timeshare for more than 40 years. She loved the beach and the beautiful sunsets.
Eleanor was a devoted mother and grandmother, deeply proud of her children Darren (who predeceased her) and Craig (Denise Lovshe), as well as her four beloved grandchildren: Loegan Andrew Owen, Taylor James Owen, Taylor Lane Lovshe, and Bryan Darren Owen. Eleanor was soon to be a great-grandmother, as Taylor James and his wife Melanie Owen are expecting a baby any day now. She found immense joy in their achievements and the love they shared as a family.
Eleanor’s life will be celebrated at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Florida 34655, on Tuesday, June 17, at 10:00 AM, where friends and family will gather to honor the remarkable lady she was and the legacy she leaves behind.
Eleanor’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and dedication. Her journey from England to the United States, her contributions to the banking industry, and her unwavering commitment to her family and friends are a testament to the remarkable life she led. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in honor of Eleanor Owen to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as this was one of her favorite causes.
