Eileen Anne Gerber Meurer's Obituary
Eileen Anne Gerber Meurer, age 82
Passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2025, in her home in Tampa, FL. Eileen was born December 2, 1942, in Garden City, KS, the second oldest daughter of Urban and Helen Gerber. She graduated from Garden City HS, then received an elementary education degree from Sacred Heart College in Wichita, KS. After teaching one year, Eileen married the love of her life William (Bill) Meurer from Kansas City, MO. They were married 59 years. The first 18 years of marriage were spent in Denver, CO followed by four years in Chicago, IL before moving to Tampa in 1987.
Eileen loved her role as wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She needlepointed elaborate Christmas stocking for all members of the family, 22 in all. She researched family geology, compiled family information books. Also, she gathered together family/friends' recipes for a cookbook; cooking and baking were a joy! Eileen had a welcoming and caring smile and loved people.
Eileen was very active in the Catholic church, schools and community. In Denver, she was President of Parish Council, President of Women’s Club, and volunteered on numerous committees in Tampa. She was President of the Avila Women’s Club in 1990. She volunteered as a moderator for the Jesuit HS Mother’s Club Boutique. In 1995, she and Bill co-chaired United Way of Hillsborough County. She volunteered as a mentor at Catholic Charities Pregnancy Center for 10 years. She chaired a St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Gala. Her love was being a parish Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for 55 years and bringing the Eucharist to the sick and homebound. Since joining St. Timothy in 2016, Eileen was involved as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a Sacristan of the Linens, volunteering at Trinity Café and preparing meals for homeless veterans.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, and four children, Michael (wife Mary Colleen), Steven (wife Gretchen), Anne (husband Jay Belcher) and David (wife Windy); by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild: Mary Corinne, Jacob (wife Mia and daughter Lucy), Jade, Alexander, Joshua, Zachary, Samantha, Ava, Rosemarie, Emma, Nicholas and William. Also, she is survived by a loving sister, Diane Bryan and sister-in-law Dolores Gerber. She was preceded in death by her two siblings and parents: Rosalie Purdy, Leroy Gerber and Urban and Helen Gerber.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 7, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 17512 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558. The Mass will be followed by interment and a reception at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
