Douglas Davidson's Obituary
Douglas Lamar Davidson, husband of Noelia Esther Heredia, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 70. The oldest son of Leo Lamar Davidson and Agnes Colleen Davidson, he was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on November 19, 1955.
In addition to his wife, Nellie, he leaves behind their five children: Irene (Davidson) Bray (Ben Bray), Rebecca Davidson, James Davidson, Catherine Davidson, and Susan Davidson. He is survived by four siblings: Julie (Davidson) Fairbanks, James N Davidson, Colleen (Davidson) Low, and Mark Davidson.
Doug grew up on the edge of the Canadian prairies at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta, Canada. He lived primarily in Lethbridge where he completed his elementary, junior, and high school education. He graduated high school from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. For college he completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Lethbridge, earned a law degree from the University of Alberta, and completed an MBA from Brigham Young University.
Growing up, Doug enjoyed sports, in particular basketball, and loved being out in the mountains. Family lore is full of wonderfully demanding and beautiful hikes in Glacier and Waterton National parks. Whether it was basketball, softball, or neighborhood street hockey, Doug was a dexterous and accomplished athlete and loved to compete.
Professionally, Doug practiced law briefly in Lethbridge before pursuing his MBA at BYU. In 1986 he moved to New York City to work for the Bank of Nova Scotia in their real estate division. Soon after arriving in New York, he met Nellie at church. They dated for several months and were sealed (married) in the Washington DC temple on September 19, 1987.
Over the next 40 years, Doug made his career in commercial real estate banking. He established a reputation for being an honorable and hard worker, and a reliable colleague and associate to all his peers. Doug experienced successes facilitating deals and transactions and loved the relationships with people he established and nurtured. He is most remembered for his good cheer, collaboration, work ethic, and complete integrity.
His work with various banks took his family from New York to the Washington DC area where he and Nellie raised their children in Ashburn, Virginia. Doug’s family meant everything to him, and he prioritized their needs above work and other interests. As a youth, he learned building and renovation skills on the family farm which served him well for his own DIY projects at home. Although Doug worked hard at his job and at home, he loved music, playing piano, and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Doug was a dedicated, faithful, and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities in his local congregations. As a young man he served a full-time two-year mission for the church in the Flemish speaking region of Belgium. As an adult he served in several leadership capacities including as a Bishop’s counselor, Bishop, and District President. For a few years, he recently taught Primary (children’s Sunday school) with Nellie. He very much enjoyed being surrounded by children and they were fond of his good nature and loving attention. His service efforts for church members and others were always driven by Christian charity and an awareness of their needs. He will be deeply missed but his example and kindness will be remembered by his family, friends, work associates, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7851 Lutz Lake Fern Rd Odessa, Florida. Viewing and visitation will begin at 10:00 am to be followed by the service at 11:00 am, with Bishop Garrick Infanger presiding clergy. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens 12609 Memorial Dr. Trinity, Florida.
