Dora Kingery's Obituary
KINGERY, Dora Thomas, 100, of Tampa, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She is preceded in death by all six of her siblings; her husband, Guy Kingery; and her older son, Glenn Kingery, Sr. She is survived by her younger son, Kenneth Kingery, Sr. and his wife, Brenda; Glenn's widow, Dorothy Kingery; and dozens of other family members, comprising at least three further genera-tions. Mrs. Kingery was born in Frostproof, FL in 1914 and, over the past century, weathered depressions and booms, wars and marriages, births and deaths. She always took the bad with the good, and handled each with grace. Mrs. Kingery held many positions of distinction in her life, most prominently as president of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the Navy Wives Club during World War II. During her time with the Navy Wives Club, she met Eleanor Roosevelt on two separate occasions, which were some of her most cherished memories. When Mrs. Kingery's hus-band and children settled in Tampa, she attended the First Methodist Church of Tampa, and for the last fifty-five years was deeply involved with the Keystone United Methodist Church of Odessa. She served on many boards and committees at Keystone. Mrs. Kingery will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and church. She was a beloved, constant pillar of strength in their lives. Her life of service, faith, and dedication to family was an example to all and her greatest legacy. Services will be held at Keystone United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 8, 2015: fellowship with family 12:30-2:00pm in the Fellowship Hall; viewing 2:00-2:30pm and celebration of life 2:30-4:00pm in the Sanctuary; interment at 5pm (see www.TrinityMemorial.com for more internment details). The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Keystone United Methodist Church (813-920-5153).
