Donald F Roden's Obituary
Donald Francis Roden of Trinity, FL passed Wednesday July 26 2017. He was one of two children born in the Bronx NY to George and Angelina Roden. He attended Holy Cross High School and later married his childhood sweetheart Dolores Winifred Cody on Feb 24, 1948 . On December 17, 1948 they were soon blessed with their first son Gary Francis Roden. Don was drafted into the US Army on Sept 24 1951 where he proudly fought in the Korean War. He later was discharged and enlisted in the US Army and served proudly until June 22 1959 reaching the rank of Sargent First Class. His second son Richard Edward Roden was born August 30, 1954 at Fort Riley Junction City Kansas and on June 19 1957 his third son Donald Eugene Roden was born overseas in Schweinfurt Germany. After leaving the Army the family moved to Levittown NY where he began his career as a state civil servant in the recreation department for the Village of Garden City, Long Island, NY for the next 30 years. Retiring in 1994 he and Dolores decided to leave New York for a warmer climate and retired to Pasco County Florida. Don’s retirement eventually led him to become known as “Don the Mailbox Man” where he filled a void in repairing and replacing community mail boxes. He will be missed by all those who made his acquaintance. He enjoyed the outdoors, working with people and manicuring his lovely home.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Winifred Roden, residing in Trinity FL. Sons: Gary Francis Roden and wife Karen Conlon Roden of Trinity FL; Richard Edward Roden and wife Donna Virga Roden of Trinity FL; and Donald Eugene Roden and wife Diana Kulik Roden of Long Island NY. Grand children: Nicole Roden Cigich, Courtney Roden Kollarik, Meghan Roden Kaminski and LeeAnne Kulik. Great grandchildren Hunter Cigich, Tyler Pappas and Liam Pappas. And niece Sharon Quigley Aronson.
