A great loss. I worked w/ him at Hillsborough HS, and always admired his professional demeanor as well as his levity. May God Bless his soul, and comfort his family in this time of grief.

Quasar was one of a kind. We started our teaching careers at Oak Grove/Memorial at the same time. He was a great teacher and admin and an even better friend. He loved his family with all his being. I'll never his smile, kind words, and advice when I would step into his office. Be at rest my friend.
On behalf of the Hillsborough High School Bus Drivers, We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Givens Family. Mr.Givens really did show us he cared about us, he made our jobs easy because we knew if we had a problem on the bus, he would fix it when we got there. He also made sure we were treated fair, whenever the school got an incentive he made sure we were apart of it. When he left Hillsborough and went to Plant it was bitter sweet because we were sad that we was losing the best administrator in the world, but happy that he was gaining a better opportunity. So we say to you Sister Karen Givens and family, we rejoiced and was happy to be able to share the time we had with such a beautiful soul and we definitely are mourning with you on the passing of our dear Brother Darryl A Givens. He was so cherished amongst us all; may those happy memories bring comfort. Just to name a few of us , the Hillsborough Drivers: Sheneta Strong, Sheila Akines , Heather MCcrary, Sonja Sims, and Tina Smith.
I grew up with Darryl and everyone else on what was then Hoadly Road. We
actually are distant family. Attending church, school, etc., as Agnewville was a small, tight community. Praying that God holds you all in the palms of his hands.
I was going to share my thoughts in person at your wake tonight, but I will not be able to make it. Mr. Givens you were a light for so many of us over the years. I was fortunate to be amongst your Memorial to Hillsborough cohort. They way that you were able to connect with us while maintaining the clear line that we should never try you was a true work of art. You knew when to praise, to rebuke, and to hug. You ensure ld that the school doors opened early so parents didn't have to worry about kids wondering the streets before school. You went to work to greet students who mistakenly were dropped off on the day hurricane days. You were my falculty advisor for distinguished gentlemen
and taught someof us to tie a neck tie. Heck I even saw you toss a 6'5" athlete to stop a fight like it was nothing. This is just some of the many thing that I observed, but you also took care of my sisters and friends. To the Givens family you have my deepest condolences. For as much as he means to us he was even more for you. I apologize for not being available to send him off in person. I pray that this and all the other messages bring you comfort in knowing that your patriarch will be missed and was very much loved by the community.

We called him Shorty in High School. He was always very kind and sweet to everyone. I have fond memories of his sweet smile and great laugh. So sorry to hear of his passing. My high school years were so much better with Shorty a part of them. Sending love, hugs and prayers to family and friends.
