Curtiss Carvalho's Obituary
47, went to be with The Lord Friday, August 5, 2016, but his larger than life persona
will never be forgotten along with his trademark ‘Hollywood’ smile. A memorial
service will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3 pm, to honor and
celebrate Curt’s extraordinary life.
Curt was born July 29, 1969, in New Bedford, MA, the middle child of Noel Carvalho
and the late Dolores Dutra. It was no secret that Curt was destined for success
and he dreamed of it often in his childhood years. Even at an early age, Curt wanted to live the
American dream, have a family, build a business, contribute to others, and to enjoy life to the
fullest. We all feel blessed to have had Curt in our lives.
At the age of 22, Curt made the decision to move to Florida to start a construction company
with his father, and on a wing and a prayer C.J. Carvalho Construction was born. Through
his hard work and tireless dedication the company thrived and became the successful business
he dreamed of as a boy. His work was truly a passion for Curt. When we drive by buildings and
other places that he and his company built, we are filled with pride and see a piece of Curt in
each of those efforts. It is a lasting memory for which we are thankful.
Outside of his company, Curt loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. He loved
going to Tropicana Field to watch the games with his son, Nick, where they had a great father
and son routine of making the rounds throughout the stadium to talk with all who knew him,
and usually coming home with something from the auction. He also loved to collect sports
memorabilia, with special pride in Red Sox players like Ted Williams and his favorite player, Carl
Yastremski. That spot was taken by a new favorite a few years ago when his son, Nick, became
his favorite baseball player. Even when business took him across the state of Florida or across
other states, Curt worked very hard to never miss a game. He loved having that time with Nick,
and his love for the Greater Holiday Little League (GHLL) was evident as it became his second
home. He was a coach, mentor, sponsor, and board member. Anyone who knew Curt knew it
was more than a love for the game, it was a love for all the kids in the league, and especially his
son, Nick.
Curt met his wife, Michelle Photos Carvalho, Jan. 29, 1994 at the Old New York New
York in Clearwater. After a long courtship and engagement, they were married Sept. 23, 2000,
on St. Pete Beach. Curt welcomed his stepdaughter, Jennifer, into his family and was “Dad” to
her, providing a great fatherly influence on her life.
Curt spent his life as we all should, showing his kindness and generosity to so many
people. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was admired, respected, and an inspiration. He
will be greatly missed and will live forever in our hearts.
Curtiss is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Photos Carvalho; their children, Nicholas
and Jennifer Carvalho; his father, Noel; stepmother, Debbie Carvalho; sisters, Janice (Carvalho)
Duprey and Donna (Carvalho) Innamorato; and his aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins. In addition,
he is also survived by three lifelong friends, Joe Luiz, Charlie Mello, and Kyle Souza who
were as close as brothers to Curt and who shared most of Curt’s life together. He is predeceased
by his loving mother, Dolores Dutra, who passed away this past year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greater Holiday Little League in
honor of Curtiss J. Carvalho or NY Presbyterian Hospital on the Curtiss Carvalho giving page.
