Craig Thompson's Obituary
Craig Raymond Thompson, 78, of Trinity, Florida, passed away on June 20, 2025. Craig was born on December 16, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, one of four children born to Raymond and Hope Thompson. He spent his formative years in Providence with his sisters Paula and Gail and brother Brian, with whom he shared a strong bond and closeness throughout their lives. After graduating from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, he went on to attend Bryant College, where he earned his degree in 1968. After finishing school, Craig became an entrepreneur and co-owned an import jewelry company for over 40 years. He was active in the Rhode Island World Trade Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He partially retired when he moved to Florida with his wife Cindy 11 years ago, then fully retired in 2022.
As a child, Craig loved playing sports and he was a lifelong fan of Boston sports, loving the Red Sox, Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. He always enjoyed a discussion of sports. He was a competitive golfer, known for his excellent putting skills, and always willing to share his simple “back and forth” technique with friends and strangers alike. Prior to his dedication to golf, Craig was a skilled bowler, enjoying his Friday night league. He enjoyed listening to music and was known to sing along to songs while in the theater. Craig enjoyed traveling, good food, books, and socializing and golfing with his friends. He had a lifelong love of the beach, from Bonnet Shores in Rhode Island to the beaches of the Gulf Coast of Florida. Craig will be remembered for his welcoming smile and his laugh that came directly from his heart. He was truly “one of the great guys”.
Craig is survived by Cynthia Hatcher Thompson, his loving wife of over 25 years; his son Matthew Craig Thompson; his grandson Noah Brady Thompson; and his siblings Paula Golato, Brian Thompson, and Gail Flodin. He was preceded in death by his mother Hope Donnelly Thompson and his father Raymond John Thompson.
A celebration of life will be held in Rhode Island in August 2025 and another for his Florida friends and family in October 2025.
