Charles Stone's Obituary
Funeral of Charles Selvin Stone will be held Friday, August 9, at 10:30 am at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Dr., Trinity FL, 34655. The family also invites you to attend a celebration of life gathering on Tuesday August 13, at Axels Restaurant, 1318 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota, MN 55150.
Charles was born October 17, 1922 in Brooklyn NY. He served in the Army and was in WWII, stationed in China Burma India Theatre. Following the war, he moved back to New York City and attended NYU and became a teacher until 1986 when he retired. After retirement, he moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was committed to his Jewish faith and was instrumental in the establishment of a new synagogue in the Tampa Bay area. He was also chairman of the Jewish War Veterans organization, Suncoast Chapter for many years. He also led the United Federation of Teachers for many years in both New York and Florida. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Eleanor Stone (nee Goldberg), parents Max & Rachel Stone (nee Dreese) his 2 children, Robin Diamond (Leon) and Mark Stone, grandson Mitchell Stone. He is survived by 4 grandchildren John Yovanovitch (Nettie), Jason Stone (Kim), Zev Diamond, Karyn Diamond, 8 great grandchildren, Ann Marie Pribble (Christopher) John Yovanovitch Jr., (Mariah), Madelyn Belt (Trevor), Gabriel Stone, Sophia Stone, Julian Stone, Evan Stone, Julia Stone and 7 great-great grandchildren, Thomas Pribble, Jason Yovanovitch, Brantley Belt, Brayden Yovanovitch, Kade Yovanovitch, Cason Pribble, Wyatt Pribble. Also survived by daughter-in-law Terese Stone (nee Topper), who was married to his late son Mark, and his granddaughter-in-law Lillian Stone (nee Ramirez), who was married to his late grandson Mitchell.
Charles wore many hats throughout his life and created a remarkable legacy. He impacted the lives of many and was loved by all.
