Charles W. McHenry Jr.'s Obituary
Charles William McHenry Jr. 75,
of New Port Richey Florida, passed away on August 16, 2019 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marilyn, his daughter Susan Figueroa (of Madison, CT), his grandsons Benjamin Figueroa III and Nathan Figueroa; his siblings Jane Charest (of Hudson, FL), Michele Morris (of Hudson, FL) and Michael McHenry (of New Port Richey); 22 nieces and nephews, and his K-9 Best Friend, Buddy. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Roseanne Eathorne. Charlie was born in Lawrence, MA to Charles and Bernadette McHenry. He grew up in East Hartford, CT and joined the US Air Force after graduation. He was very proud of his Air Force service and was stationed in Germany and Pakistan. Charlie, an avid baseball fan, grew up a Red Sox fan, but became a Tampa Bay Rays fan when he relocated to Florida. After an accident in 1965, which left him paralyzed, he spent his life challenging the status quo for wheelchair-bound people. After graduating with his accounting certificate, he went to work for the State of CT DOT where he retired from in 1997 as the Director of Accounts Payable. After retiring, he found his forever home in Timber Greens and enjoyed the community and attended many activities. Tampa Bay Rays games, whether spring training or regular season, were his favorite past time.
Military Honors cermony will be held at the Florida National Cemetery, on September 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the SPCA of Tampa Bay (spcatampabay.org).
