Beverly Jones' Obituary
Beverly (Bev) Jeanne (Holmes) Jones, 88, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away on October 28, 2024.
Born in 1936, Bev grew up in Waterloo, New York, with her parents Dr. Walter Raymond Holmes and Jeanne Warnock Holmes, her older sister, Judy, and her younger brother, Tom. In their younger years, Bev and her sister enjoyed riding and caring for their horses. Bev went on to get her teaching degree from Syracuse University in 1958. Bev was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and remained active as an alumna.
Bev met Gilbert (Gil) Jones in Schenectady, New York where she was a teacher, and he was working for General Electric. They were married August 29, 1959. After several moves, they settled in New Hartford, New York, where Bev taught elementary school until their first child, Jennifer, was born. Two years later Gil joined Xerox, and the family moved to Fairport, New York, where their two sons Gilbert (Gib) and Jeffrey (Jeff) were born. Bev was active in the community, a member of the Perinton Parks and Recreation Commission, Pathways for Perinton, and a Sunday School teacher at Fairport United Methodist Church. Once the children were all in school, Bev got her master’s degree in special education at Nazareth University and returned to teaching full time. She and Gil were always there to support their kids in whatever they decided to pursue. After a 5-week long trip across the country highlighting National Parks in 1976, they bought a summer cottage on Keuka Lake and enjoyed boating, fishing, and the out of doors as a family.
After retiring, Bev and Gil sold the family home in Fairport and purchased a home in Timber Greens in New Port Richey, Florida, and were snowbirds for several years before making Florida their full-time home. Bev enjoyed golf, bridge, ceramics, volunteered at the local elementary school, and was a deacon at church. She and Gil were loving grandparents and enjoyed having some of the grandkids nearby. They enjoyed wonderful trips to Australia, England, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, and Alaska, in addition to annual trips to see grandchildren, other family members, and friends.
Bev will be remembered for her big heart and sparkling smile. She was first to volunteer and had a contagious love of life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gil; daughter, Jennifer Ackart (and Robert Ackart) and two sons, Gib Jones (and Theo Moll), and Jeff Jones (and Marlene Jones); sister Judy Remas; ten grandchildren, Phillip, Laura, Steven, Alex, David, Parker, Dean, Keaton, Campbell, and London; and 5 great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Kevin, Miah, Tucker and Nolan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation.
