Barbara Hilda Blewitt's Obituary
Barbara Blewitt born on the 10th of February 1937 in Hackney North London,
England, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Christmas Eve.
Growing up during the war her family survived the incessant bombing of London.
Her parents Leonard and Hilda Cobb had a small store near the high road where
her father applied his trade as a cabinet maker and her mother ran a small
business. It is here my mother learned virtues and a keen sensibility for living for
today. In 1957 at the age of 25 she married Leon Blewitt sharing her values she
acquired from her Salvation Army relatives. She always spoke softly, never an ill
word and provided the family with care. In 1972 the year of the biggest storm
(Agnus) the family emigrated to Harrisburg, PA USA. She raised the family, found
her callings and held numerous offices with the PTA, Trans-Atlantic Brides, Red
Hats Society, and many other organizations. These keen administrative skills
were instrumental in the founding of the West Shore Soccer Club in 1976. As a
leading member of the soccer community, she organized tournaments locally and
nationally which later extended to housing professional players (The Harrisburg
Heat)
Her heartfelt love to help others included caring of her neighbors’ and the training
Black Labs for the Seeing Eye Dogs program. She loved supporting her Tottenham
Hotspurs, tennis, bowling and traveling the world.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Leon in 2004 and her youngest son
Alan in 2014. Barbara is survived by her son Gary, his wife Tracey, the
grandchildren Briana, Devon, Alec and Lance and the great grandchildren Amelia
and Jylar. She lived as a beacon by which we shall all continue to shine onto
others.
