Aurora Thomas' Obituary
Aurora Thomas, 89, of Tampa, passed away July 24th, 2024. Aurora was a lifelong resident of Tampa and Ybor City native where she met the love of her life, John. She was an amazing family woman with an unbelievable number of friends who loved her dearly.
Aurora was a spitfire, known for hosting over-the top parties and her unparalleled enthusiasm for
decorating her home every Christmas, which was not just a holiday but a way of life. Her other
passions included writing editorials for the Tampa Tribune and sharing her wealth of knowledge as
an avid “history buff”.
She would often tell stories of her childhood growing up in Ybor City and how much fun she had
raising her kids alongside her closest friends. Adventurous and vibrant, Aurora always sought the
best for her family and set a strong example of strength, resilience, and determination for all who
met her. She left us with the most unforgettable memories, truly one of a kind.
She is preceded in death by her knight in shining armor, John, sister Gloria, niece Brenda, and
nephew Troy.
She is survived by her children: John “Cookie” (Tina), John Derek (Doreen), John “Kiki” (Carrie), Lorri (Tony), grandchildren: Trig (Kate), Anthony (Kelly), Lexi (Mike), Lynsi (Ricky), Kaitlyn, Johnny, Austin (Kristin), Danielle, great grandchildren: Izaiah, Lola, Khloe, Ellie, Anthony Jr., Michael, Olivia Aurora, John Phillip, Journey, Marina, Ash, and nieces and nephews.
