Arthur Nembhard's Obituary
Arthur Nembhard, 74, of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away on March 24, 2019 in LifePath Melech Hospice House. Memorial services will be held at Gateway Christian Center, 14205 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, FL 33613 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2019 with Rev. Don Evans of Gateway Christian Center officiating. Visitation will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens 12609 Memorial Avenue, New Port Richey, FL 34655 on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Trinity Memorial Gardens will be handling funeral arrangements.
Rev. Nembhard was born in St. Ann, Jamaica to Philemon Nembhard and Ivy Lawrence on February 26, 1945 with his twin brother Austin. After relocating to Canada in 1966, he attended Humber College, Ontario, Canada and graduated in 1974 with an Associates degree in Social Services. He attended York University in Toronto, Canada part-time from 1975-1982 and in 1991 and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree with double major in Social Work and Social Service Administration in 1991. He attended Chandler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated with a Masters in Divinity degree in 1992. He became a certified Chaplain in 1993. In 1999, he received an honorary Doctorate in Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Marietta, Georgia.
Rev. Nembhard was a licensed minister with the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) denomination, 1971-1979, a licensed minister with Berean Church of God 1979-1982 and then became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God (Springfield, Missouri) where he served as a minister and later also a Chaplain from 1984 until his death. Over his 47 years of ministry, Rev. Nembhard and his wife planted 7 churches and pastored 8 churches in Canada and the United States. He served for 2 years as a full-time Chaplain for Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, 10 years as a full-time Chaplain for the Georgia Department of Corrections in 3 maximum security prisons and for 18 years as a Chaplain/Spiritual Care Consultant for LifePath Hospice Inc. in Tampa, Florida.
Rev. Nembhard is survived by his wife, Jasmin of Wesley Chapel; his children: Koreen, Wendy and Kirk; his brothers: Quilton, Joseph and Richard; his grandchildren: Jessica, Sarah, Marcus, Kirk, Jr., and Kailyn; his great-grandson, Seth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father: Philemon; his mother, Ivy; his brothers: John, Obadiah, Stephen, and Austin; and his sister: Merle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tax-deductible donations may be made to the Arthur Nembhard “Soul Catchers” Scholarship Fund” which is a scholarship established to assist students at Assemblies of God Theological accredited Seminaries where approved Assemblies of God Chaplain Candidates are enrolled in a Masters of Divinity program and are in good academic standing but are experiencing financial difficulties.
