Arkalgud P. Rao-Shantha-Korkantzis' Obituary
Born on October 6, 1942 in Sagara, Karnatka State, India, she was the youngest daughter of seven children. As a teenager, she joined the National Cadet Core and won state titles in rifle competitions. She moved to the US at the tender age of 21 after completing her first masters in botony and zoology.
She brought her compassion and never ending spark to New York City, going on to complete two additional masters in mathematics and biochemistry followed by earning two PhDs. She taught at leading universities around the city including NYU, Columbia Medical School, New York Institute of Technology, and FIT. She was passionate about teaching and nothing made her happier than being in the classroom with her students.
She was married to Nikos Korkantzis and was a beloved aunt, and great aunt, to her nieces and nephews around the world. To know her was to love her and her quick wit, humor, and laughter will always be remembered. She was the epitome of being truly beautiful inside and out and she will be deeply missed.
