Adalberto Pereira Sr's Obituary
Pereira, Adalberto, Sr. 96 of Odessa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 24, 2017. He was born on September 20, 1921 in Tampa, Fl., to Luis (Sr.) and Amalia Pereira.
Al married the love of his life Melida Rosa Coto on January 17, 1941. Shortly after his marriage to Melida, he enlisted in the United States Navy at the beginning of World War II. He served the entire war in the Pacific theatre on the LST267. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Upon returning to Melida at the end of WWII, they started a family and Al began his career in the optical business. He worked for over 50 years for the Davis Optical Company helping others to see. During his life he also supported and participated in numerous efforts including Child Evangelism, the Interbay Rotary Club of Tampa, and the Children’s Home of Tampa Bay. Al always had a special place in his heart for children and provided many of them with musical instruments to play.
Al was preceded by his siblings Luis Jr. and Josephine both of Tampa, and is survived by his wife Melida Rosa Pereira; siblings Abelardo (Elaine); Hilda; Salvador all of Tampa; children, Melida (Glenn) of Glencarbon, Il.; Adalberto Jr. (Sandra) of Tampa; Kenneth (Terri) of Safety Harbor;, Susan of Tampa; 9 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM will be held at Hillsdale Baptist Church located at 6201 Ehrlich Road, Tampa, Fl 33625 on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.
