    Bernie Nielsen

    December 29, 1948 - December 14, 2020

In loving memory of Bernie Nielsen December 29, 1948 / December 14, 2020 Bernie Nielsen, age 71, son of Victor and Edna Nielsen of Walnut, Iowa passed away peacefully Monday afternoon in Trinity, Florida on December 14, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Doreen Taylor. Bernie was a 1967 graduate of Walnut Community High School. He furthered his education at the Radio Engineering Institute in Omaha, Nebraska receiving a degree in Computer Engineering. Bernie was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Cindy Clayton, in November 1968. Together they embarked on an adventure to live in Stuttgart, Germany with their two children Heath and Carrie. Bernie was a computer engineer with Honeywell, furthering his career with Honeywell Bull, Getronics and subsequently retiring with Compucom. As a family they enjoyed living in Iowa, Germany, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine and Florida. Bernie had a joy for riding fast on motorcycles, driving fast cars, hearing the rumble of a hot rod, long car drives through the countryside with his love, the exhilaration of zipping down a mountainside on skis, learning to send a golf ball far down the fairway, and simple things like tasting new foods. He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Cindy Nielsen, his son Heath Nielsen, daughter Carrie Riel and her husband Joe Riel, his siblings Rogene Terrian and her husband Daniel, Vicki Aughe and her husband Roger, Jay Nielsen and his wife Karen, his brother in law Dennis Taylor, his grandsons Eric Nielsen and Joey Riel along with many other loved relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in memory of our courageous loved one through one of the following options: Charitable giving website: www.moffitt.org/giving By Phone: 813-745-1403 By mail: Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation MBC-Found 12092 Magnolia Dr. Tampa, FL 33612 Please include memorial name Bernie Nielsen when making your donation. No matter the size of the contribution, small or great, it will help save other courageous lives. Services will be delayed until next year when the family can reunite in celebration of his life.
