She was endearingly called “Belen”, as a child. It means nativity meaning the birth of Jesus. Precious! She witnessed, as opportunity allowed her, weddings, exchange of vows, baptisms, birthdays, graduations , and all other important events in the lives of her children and their families. She was well loved by her 6 children and their spouses , 18 grandchildren and those with spouses, and 11 great grandchildren. She was devoted to family. She selflessly, affectionately, and generously shared her time, talent, and wisdom with everyone. She did everything with enthusiasm, style, charm, and grace. She lived a life that was full, lively, and lovely that people whom she encountered, regardless, whether brief or extended, remembered her as compassionate, kindhearted, and loveable. She was an inspiring teacher, proactive community leader, creative and enterprising lady, beyond her time. She had a childlike confidence in God. Her first course of action whether the challenges were minor or major, was to pray and trust. This was the source of her positive outlook in life. The following are some of her inspiring wisdom; (1) Help nature. God gave us physical attributes to protect and care for, enhanced, if need be; (2) Be solution- oriented. Focus on the solution, not on the problem; (3) Be deliberate. When a decision is reached, proceed consciously, willingly, and courageously; (4) Pray and trust in God. “If there is a will, there is a way,” that was her motto in her college yearbook when she graduated. Two of her favorite songs that she sung melodiously were “To dream the impossible dream” and “ I did it my way.” Indeed, she lived a life that was filled with life and love. The Lady in red , her favorite color, is forever our “Mama Belen.” We will miss you dearly, our ever dearest Mama. To this, she would say with a smile, a flick of her finger, and a queenly wave, “ Until we meet again.” WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
