His wife, children, and grandchildren were by his side at the time of passing. Lalit is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jyotsna, to whom he was married April 20, 1973; his daughter Ashima Bahl; his son Amit Bahl and wife Orawee; his sisters Ramona Malhotra and Chandan Sinha; and many nieces, nephews, family, friends, and his loyal dog Teddy. Lalit was born in Pakistan and raised in Karnal, India by his father Kundan Lal Bahl and his mother Savitri Bahl. He attained a Bachelor’s followed by a Masters’ degree in Marine Engineering (1965), becoming a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering. He started sailing in the Merchant Navy in 1966; and over the next 12 years he sailed across the world many times over, visiting over 100 countries. Lalit then worked as a Director of Engineering for Hyatt (and other) Hotels for about 30 years, living in multiple locations across the world, including Nepal, India, Macau, and the United States. Lalit bravely fought prostate cancer for 14 years, and was a proud member of the Livestrong cancer survivor’s community at the Tampa YMCA for many years. He loved taking long bike rides, reading for hours on his Kindle, taking long walks with Jyotsna and Teddy, movie and game nights with family, doing home improvement projects, and catching up with family, friends, and his school batch mates. Lalit deeply touched the lives of many people, always making them feel welcome and supported with his friendliness, helpful nature, and humor. He was an inspiration and role model for so many of us and will profoundly be missed by all.
