Hogun Kang

Hogun Kang passed away on March 31, 2022 after battling a long illness. Hogun was born January 21, 1939, in Busan Korea to father Myung Duck Kang, and mother Gumsoon Kwon. He was one of eight siblings, and the eldest son. Hogun enrolled at Busan University in 1957. He entered the Korean army for 2 years and then went back to continue his studies and graduated in 1963 with a mechanical engineering degree. Hogun left Korea in 1964 and traveled to the US on a student visa. He enrolled in an English program at Columbia University and then traveled to California with his sister and enrolled at Cal Poly as a thermodynamics major. He left CA to go back to NY, met Miriam Byung Duck Ahn and married her in 1966. Hogun worked in the bar and restaurant business for over 27 years. He finally retired and moved to Florida in 2003. He continued to enjoy his hobbies of fishing , golf, growing orchids and he also enjoyed fixing things around the home. He loved sharing stories about the time he was in California and in meeting Elvis Presley. Hogun is survived by his wife of 55 years, Miriam Byung Duck Kang, his daughter, Sirena (Kang) Carnevale and her husband Anthony Carnevale and his son Daniel Kang and his wife Ulricka Kang. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Ashley Kang, Leonardo Carnevale, Maximus Carnevale and Andrew Kang. A funeral service is to be held for Hogun at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Tampa Korean United Methodist Church, located at 26211 E. County Line Road, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544. Interment will take place at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
