George Ernest Rietheimer
December 23, 1953 - June 1, 2021
George Ernest Rietheimer, 67, of 7801 Colley Road, Odessa, Florida passed away on June 1, 2021 following a courageous battle with Cancer. His forever love Joan was by his side. He was born December 23, 1953 in Norristown, PA to parents Helen Wood and George Rietheimer. He was raised by mother Helen Wood and stepfather Albert Hepp. He married Joan (nee Beierschmitt), in 1987, who survives him. George is also survived by his stepfather Albert Hepp, his sister Barbara Lyngarkos (George), Niece Christine Lyngarkos McAfee (Bill) and Nephew Andrew Lyngarkos (Lauren). George was a very talented person who worked hard. He started Marine Glass Specialties and built it into a successful business which will now be managed by longtime friends and colleagues Tex Vinson and Andrew Snelling. For the last 21 years, George was an active “Sons” member of AMVETS Post 9 in Odessa Florida. During that time, he held many posts including Squadron Commander for 4 years, 1st and 2nd Vice Commander as well as other offices. He also held the post of Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services (VAVS) Representative on the State level. His responsibilities were to coordinate with other Squadrons around the State to ensure that the Veterans who were in long term care facilities were provided basic comfort items such as blankets, sweatshirts, wheelchairs etc. Again, if there was a need George somehow found a way to fulfill that need. He was also a Charter member of the AMVETS Riders both when they were District Riders and later as Chapter 9 Riders. Again, George held many of the offices and devoted his time to the organization for the good of the community. His efforts to raise money and awareness for AMVETS causes were substantial. If there was a program, community need, a member of the post that needed help or area of the Post, George was the first to step up and get it done. Whether it be labor, material, use of his personal equipment, finances or whatever the need, George made sure the project was completed. In many instances George initiated an event, program or benefit for the Squadron/Post for the good of the community. One event was the “Bluegrass Festival”, which brought people from the community to enjoy a weekend of music, food, fun and dancing. It turned out to be the largest and most successful event in the Post history. Everybody who crossed his path has a memory of the time and the laughs they shared with him. He always left a lasting impression. We are devastated that he left us, but he lived as he wished until his very last day. A memorial will be held at AMVETS Post 9 on date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either AMVETS Post 9, 14540 Black Lake Rd, Odessa, FL 33556 or One Life at a Time Animal Rescue, 121 Pine Drive, Pottstown, PA, 19465 both causes were close to George’s heart.
