    C. Michael "Mike" Miller

    March 25, 1930 - January 26, 2022

    C. Michael (“Mike”) Miller passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 at his apartment at the Harbor Chase assisted living facility surrounded by family at the age of 91. Mike laid claim to many family, personal, and business “titles,” but among his favorite were Husband, Dad, “Pap-Pap,” Brother, and Friend. He also wanted to be known as a “seeker.” A devout Catholic, his self-published memoir Seeking discussed his reservations about Catholic fundamentalism and his more personal spiritual quest for a purposeful life. Mike got his first job at age 7, opening the door to customers at his family’s Miller’s Market in Jeannette, PA, where his responsibilities expanded through his teen years. His family’s generous extension of credit and padding of grocery orders to help support customers through the Depression made a lasting impression on young Mike. Mike attended St. Vincent Preparatory School and then Duquesne University, where he majored in advertising and minored in philosophy. For the next forty years, he worked in advertising, public relations, and marketing research. His employers included Sherwin-Williams, Rockwell, SKIL, A.O. Smith, Yeck Brothers, Marsteller, Equibank, National Bank of Georgia, Citizens & Southern Bank, and Pioneer Savings Bank. After retirement, Mike served on the boards of Beacon Woods Civic Association and Neighborly Senior Services, and as a volunteer chaplain at Morton Plant Hospital. He also found plenty of time to indulge his love of golf with friends and family. Mike is survived by his wife Mary Jane; daughters Melissa Nece, Lynn Miller, Chris Klein, and Jennifer Rattner; son Chuck; daughter-in-law Lucy Miller (Barch); son-in-law Steve Rattner; brothers Jim and Dave; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was loved dearly and will long be remembered and missed. The family is grateful for the care and support provided by the staff of Harbor Chase of Palm Harbor and the care team of Suncoast Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mike’s memory to Empath Health’s Suncoast Hospice: https://suncoasthospice.org/online-donations/.
