October 21, 1930 - June 21, 2021
Arlene Joy Meck (Nee Hugger), born 10.21.1930 has been reunited with her beloved husband Bill (William) in the Kingdom of Heaven on June 21, 2021. Arlene was born third to the youngest in a family of 12 children in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. The Great Depression era was a difficult time for the family, and her mother passed away when she was eight years old. Her elder sister, Eunice (Eunie), stepped in to raise the five youngest children to keep the family together. The Huggers were always a very close family. As a teenager, Arlene had lots of interesting jobs to earn extra money to help the family with basic needs; from pin setter at the bowling alley to shoveling snow at the ice rink. She also worked for the Peet family, part of the Colgate and Palmolive corporation, during the summer of her ninth grade year of high school on Manitou Island in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. In addition, she was the head cashier at Brazil’s grocery store. She formally met Bill when she was 18 years old at the Centerville Bar in White Bear Lake when he asked her to dance. She had admired him from afar throughout her days at White Bear high school. When they began dating she started work at Saint Paul Fire Marine insurance company as a “get girl”. Arlene and Bill were married in 1954 and had three children, Gary (Paula), David, and Susan (Jennifer Haughey). In addition to her children, Arlene is survived by her grandchildren, Kendall, Tyler, Zack, Lexie and Erin. She also is survived by six great grandchildren, Emmett, Finn, Cameron, Brooklyn, Landry and Austin, as well as many nieces and nephews. Arlene treasured her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her sister LaVonne, brother Dickie, Don and Betty Meck, and Kenny and Sandy Keister. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 1, 2021 at 10:00 am at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Dr., Trinity FL. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice of Michigan HOM.org. who did so much to provide comfort and care for her, or a tribute donation to the Humane Society of Tampa, Florida https://humanesocietytampa.org/ in recognition of her passionate love for all fur babies. The family wishes to thank their friends, co-workers and colleagues, relatives, and neighbors who have provided so much love and support.
